Experience of an Emcee

Transcendence and Metamorphosis, the process of struggle, growth, and evolution-breaking boundaries, crossing thresholds, and elevating to new heights-paired with human flourishing through finding purpose and realising true potential. Ek Pehchan, hosted on the 26th and 27th of September, 2024, reflected these core ideologies through scintillating performances. In the organisation of this event, I had the privilege of being an emcee for the Theatre Unplugged section under the Creativeins vertical. The truly enriching experience began weeks before the 26th, when we were introduced to our roles, and we began working on the script, that-despite multiple drafts running through Ms. Mahashweta, Ms. Pujya, and Ms. Sangeeta-wasn’t finalised till 10 minutes before the event began. The build-up of nerves and anticipation before speaking in front of an audience all dissipated as I watched the audience engage with the stories and performances, that reflected the profound impact of the event on our emotional and intellectual growth. Although I was first apprehensive for Emceeing: amplifying every word, gesture, and pause in front of a large audience, I would look back at it as the first of hopefully many more to come, as I was given the experience to practice my public speaking skills, while contributing fruitfully to the organisation of the event.
