I recently attended an enlightening session on the integration of psychology and mathematics, conducted by my peer, Yashraj Garg. The session focused on the application of statistics in psychological research and emphasised its significance. The topics covered align closely with what we are set to explore further in our math classes, such as hypothesis testing.
This session served as a valuable introduction to the unit that we will be delving into more deeply in our classes. It effectively highlighted the interdisciplinary connections between psychology and mathematics. Through this session, I gained a good understanding of hypothesis testing, including key topics like T-tests, Z-tests, two-tailed and one-tailed T-hypotheses, and different types of errors.
Even though I don’t study psychology, I found it intriguing to view mathematics from a psychological perspective and witness the practical application of statistics in the real world. I came to realise the profound importance of statistics and data handling in the field of psychology. The session not only broadened my understanding of mathematics and psychology but also underscored the valuable role that statistics play in advancing psychological research.
