On the 24th of November, our school hosted Rishnit Singh Heera, a distinguished guest who served as an ambassador for Indian art at the Drishyakala Museum in Delhi’s Red Fort. Beyond his ambassadorial role, he is an enthusiastic collector and promoter of emerging Indian arts. In 2022, he co-founded Supernova Art, a platform promoting diverse artworks and investing in both emerging and renowned talents. This engaging discourse initiated a thought-provoking session exploring the business facets of Indian Art, with Mr. Heera contributing valuable insights. His expertise helped paint a vivid picture of the role politics, economics, society, and technology plays in propelling the industry forward.
The discussion commenced with the contemplation of the very essence of art. This led students to share perspectives on the boundless creative processes within the art world. Further in the conversation, the topic of fine art in history took center stage. Mr. Heera shared insights on how artists from 300 years ago expressed their observations of the world, through creative expression. This provided us with a lens into our contemporary civilization.
The presentation, curated with images, showcased the evolution of art. From discussing ancient cave paintings to renowned masterpieces like "The Last Supper" and Medusa Sculpture.
The discussion seamlessly transitioned into art movements such as Impressionism and Cubism pioneered by renowned artists. With a lively trivia session, we identified a myriad of paintings and artists. This helped us bridge the gaps between historical and contemporary aspects.
A revelation emerged as the quiz exposed our unfamiliarity with Indian art. Thus, prompting focus on gems like Raja Ravi Varma. We analyzed her painting of Lakshmi ji in a western style. Furthermore, we were introduced to Manvi Parek, who inspired the Dior runway fashion show, highlighting the global impact of Indian forms of art.
The conversation then expanded into the business aspects of the same. Using a comprehensive PEST analysis, we analyzed the political, economic, social, and technological factors. The political aspect of government policies, taxation, and trade restriction shed light on the market conditions for Indian art. The social dimension was based on the consumer trends, education, and the influence of social media. Additionally, the technological landscape, was marked by disruptive technologies like AI powered art.
The discussion further touched upon the topics of auction records and increasing value and international recognition of Indian art. Comparisons with Western markets highlighted the unique scope and opportunities it presents.
In conclusion, Mr. Heera’s session provided a comprehensive journey through the realms of art. This brought into limelight the far-reaching impact that Indian art has had on a global scale.
