Participating in a PBL with my group based on trigonometry was a process which included the creation of a multilevel parking lot outside our school, was one experience which was a rewarding journey and helped me learn many things, as well as develop various skills. This project not only allowed us to deepen our understanding of trigonometric principles, but also helped us apply this knowledge in a real-life situation, while also benefiting our school.
Throughout the project my group engaged in various tasks which included researching about trigonometric concepts and exploring the application of our learnings in the field of construction and architecture. Since the main aim of the project was to fix a problem which our school community faces daily, it only made us more determined to do so and find the appropriate solution. Doing calculations such as finding the hypotenuse for the ramp and doing calculations for finding the most appropriate angle was achieved due to our prior knowledge as well, which included the topics of angles in a triangle. We were able to understand first-hand how mathematics can be applied to address real life problems and make improvements to our immediate environment. This experience not only deepened our knowledge of the previous learnt concepts, but also helped us revise the same but at a higher level. The entire process of completing this project included:
Overall, our PBL not only helped us learn more about mathematical concepts but also broadened our perspectives and helped enrich our knowledge about related topics which we were interested in. by working as a group towards 1 specific goal, we were eventually able to find a solution to our problem and make safe and logical a design idea about the parking lot, which would benefit the school as a whole.
