As a wise person once said “people leave pieces of their soul in their artwork” we watched DP2 students write themselves through their artwork. The much-awaited visual arts exhibition of the batch of 2024 was displayed today on 15th April 2024. The long days of hard work, painting, shaping, and feedback is finally on display. Every artwork has a story to tell and its commendable how each of these students had a different one. The topic varied from fear and dance to self-identity, all coming together through one word which was “art”.?
Starting off with the beautiful candle lighting ceremony amongst our respected school director, senior school principal Mrs. Naag and all the teachers of the visual arts department who have helped shape us students. Walking through a slow and exciting journey of the message behind the artworks DP2 students created over the course of 2 years was exhilarating. The young artists selected one topic each to research about in detail, creating works revolving around it and writing about it. They used a range of different mediums like sculpture, ceramics, oil painting, installations, linocut and many more. How can someone be this creative? I thought to myself, while recording these students speak about their work. It’s the comfort and environment, I suppose, that this visual arts workspace has.
We respect and we applaud you, DP2 for embracing your differences and giving us an insight on how unique you are. Every time I look at the artworks in the gallery, I’ll remember how differently these students colour the place. For the DP1 visual arts students, they leave behind such huge shoes to fill and works to be inspired by. The passion and dedication were evident in each corner, which makes one want to stop and admire each artifact.
In conclusion give a closed room with 4 walls to artists and they will give you back a fairytale heaven. As I walked towards the exit, I overheard a teacher say to a student “I’m proud of you to believe in yourself” Beautiful right? Everyone needs to visit this gallery and this exhibition at least once, to understand how deserving these students and these artists were to hear those words. DP2 leaves now, but I hope these students know that they left pieces of themselves on these walls for future students to always follow.?
