Our DP1 camps, offering a realm of activities, also made sure to challenge us creatively. The second day of the camp offered a diverse array of activities that stimulated this creativity and allowed us to explore new artistic mediums. One of the highlights of the day was the Rakhi-making activity using pine trees. It was a unique and innovative way to celebrate the traditional "Rakhi" incorporating elements of nature into our creations. Crafting Rakhis from pine needles and other natural materials not only challenged our creativity but also deepened our appreciation for the environment and the resources it provides.
Another engaging activity was gel candle making, which provided an opportunity to experiment with colours and decorations. Crafting our own candles allowed us to express our individuality and personal preferences while learning about the art and science behind candle making. The process required precision and attention to detail, from crafting the wick to hand-placing the seashells, fostering a sense of focus and concentration.
The manual hand pottery session using Himachal clay was a hands-on experience that allowed us to connect with the rich cultural heritage of the region. Working with clay requires patience and dexterity, as we moulded and shaped the clay into diyas, it was a therapeutic and meditative process that encouraged us to embrace imperfections and find beauty in the creative journey.
Reflecting on the creativity component of the camp, I realize that these activities offered more than just opportunities for artistic expression. They fostered a sense of connection—to nature, to tradition, and to each other.
Moreover, these activities challenged us to step out of our comfort zones and embrace new experiences. Whether it was working with unfamiliar materials or learning traditional craft techniques, each activity pushed us to expand our creative horizon. It reminded me of the importance of nurturing creativity in all aspects of life, not only for personal fulfilment but also for building connections, fostering innovation, and enriching our understanding of the world around us.
